Lessons in the Lines of Sad Songs
You didn't realize the way you would live on in us
An empty space at the altar
Occupied by all our memories of you
Because no one can fill your shoes
Didn't all the songs we use to sing, loud and out of key
Tell you there aren't any answers at the bottom of a bottle
Now you live on in all of our sad songs
The empty space at the table
The times we won't get back
They say you're in a better place
But all of us just wish you were here
Where, Why, What, How, See You Later
Can you come back, just long enough to tell us where you've gone?
Tell us Where is better than right here with us?
If you aren't allowed to tell us where,
Can you tell us Why you left the way you did?
Maybe even the What? What was so heavy, you needed a hard reset?
Or even how we could have stopped this?
If this was unstoppable,
Can you come back long enough to tell us we'll see you in the next life?
