Reason 37

I almost did not meet her. Our friendship is proof you can not fuck up things that are meant for you.

Our friendship was formed during a transitionary period for both of us. Starting a new, chapter and almost immediately going into lockdown. Considering how short of time we had known each other there

were daily check-ins as if we had been friends for years. She inspired me to get back on my sewing machine. In a fit of hyper fixation, I made her a shirt in one day. This sparked my creative streak for the rest of Lockdown 3.3 (or whichever it was).

It's hard to make friends when you are at your worst but for some reason, she stuck around. She's always keen for a coffee and dog walk and has been the best auntie to my Little Chewbacca.

The things I love about her most are her resilience, creativity and her "fuck yes" attitude. Some days I see her as a superwoman, able to carry the weight of the world and when it does knock her down, she gets back up. Every. Fucking. Time. We can sit together and accomplish a lot. She is my favourite body double. When you give her a pencil, she naturally enters a flow state and it's fucking beautiful.

I can think of zero occasions she has not been down for random adventures and appreciate all the spontaneous dinners and hikes she has joined me for. We manage to make the best of beach days, despite the bi-polar Auckland weather.

When I am on the verge on the verge of a breakdown, she's got cuddles for me. We will always end up laughing our asses off no matter how dire the situation is.

My life is infinitely better now that she has become a part of it.

That is why I keep living. Because I am loved. Because I love her too much to let her live a life without me.
