Reason 36

Where to start with Sean?

He is an Oxymoron; the nicest asshole I have ever met.

We met on a random Sunday at Chapel bar. Almost immediately he told me he was adopting me into his group because I was foreign and he loves to show us around. I am glad because I have had some of the most fun and unique experiences with him and the group he has introduced me to.

The first event I ever went to was a boudoir party at his flat. I showed up in a onesie because I had no idea what I was getting myself into. As more people showed up, I got the vibe that I was safe and that these were good people that I could be myself around. The onesie came off and this picture is a result of that night

Since then Sean has been there for causal drinks, COVID picnics, Waiheke trips and mostly recently puppy walks.

Let me go back to him being the nicest asshole I ever met. I learn real quick he loves to get a reaction out of people and wants to push their buttons. Mainly this serves to weed out the assholes who aren't worthy to hand but I know it is also because he gets a kick out of it.

He teases me about everything. Some days I'm a bit sensitive and don't want to hear it and he picks up on that. Other days, he is relentless and it makes me more resilient and has taught me to be less reactive to people's bullshit.

On my worst days, he has been supportive by providing quality time and unlimited laughs. When I was working shift he was always keen on a random Wednesday night adventure (since my weekends were non-existent), it is how we discovered Big Wednesdays at the classic and our uncanny ability for heckling (NERD!).

I feel lucky to have someone like Sean in my life because he has been such a crucial friend here in New Zealand. He always checks in and wants to make plans.

That is why I keep living. Because I am loved. Because I love him too much to let him live a life without me.
