Reason 7

Today should be the worst day of my life. I have been "dismissed" from my program and had my master's degree ripped out from under me.

The funniest part is I haven't laughed this hard in awhile. This is something I live for: Laughter. Laughter so hard it hurts. Guaranteed I will have six pack tomorrow from laughing so hard tonight. I was told that I did not have the support system required to get through the International Disaster Program at the University of Denver.

The thing is I have enough close friends who are here to make me laugh. To some, this situation would be dire. I mean it's so dire, the university is offering me free crisis counseling because they know ripping student's goals out from under them is reason enough for someone else to end it.

The thing is I have this amazing ability to laugh everything off. There is nothing I can do today or even tomorrow to fix the situation, so I am going to laugh and choose happiness because I can only choose my responses to other people. Letting other peoples' narrow opinions get to me, will only shorten my life.

For those of you who don't know me well, I plan to live forever.

I have spent this afternoon with my friends laughing and creating more inside jokes. We celebrated this opportunity with an onsie party and Stewart quotes (if you don't know who he is look up MADTV. You're missing out). I cried once today in the meeting because I was expecting a behavior plan and was served a termination letter instead. The rest of today has been brushing **it off and laughing till my eyes leak and my lungs beg for air. I know that probably sounds miserable but it is one of the best feelings ever.

Laughing until your ribs hurt.

Laughing till you cry.

Laughing till your cheeks hurt.

Laughing so hard you know you love the people around you, because that's what love does. It makes laugh when you want to cry and smile when when life seems bleak.

I remember more of the days that I laughed till I am in pain than bad days.

I remember laughing through most of today's class because we had named a basil plant Pesto and were planning to turn him into exactly that, as well as sharing personal concerns about our summer internships, but mostly how concerned we were with how attractive the guys would be (Not that we'd even have the time of day for them).

I spent the night at a friends house and laughed for 30 minutes straight over the broken light in the alley turning on every time I rolled over to face it and off when I rolled away.

I remember almost getting kicked out of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Pt. 2 with Kimbo because we thought that Voldemort said "AAABUUUUDAAAAA". We laughed through the entire end of the movie. To this day if I get a message from Kimbo with nothing but "AAABUUUUDAAAAA", I will still laugh for a solid ten minutes.

When my gay husbands and Cait would give me shit for the T-files and joke about the extensive list of idiots I went on test dates with and needing white out for the losers that got nixed real quick, I laughed it off (I have terrible taste in Tinder choices).

Those nights we sat on the roof and "fucked the world" and random nights adventuring to new places just because we could. The parks we found and swings sets we nearly fell off because we were laughing that hard at ourselves.

I remember nights in Australia, laying under the stars and laughing all night because we were just that in love with being together and being alive. And those nights we stayed up laughing about our ridiculous dream interpretations, usually involving T-rexes.

To those of you who have been there to laugh for minutes, hours and nights on end, I appreciate and love you and look forward to more opportunities to laugh with you.

Laughing is truly the best medicine for all of life's misadventures, as well as the key to living forever (just ask my grandma).

I live to laugh. I laugh with all the people who I love and love me in return. Even on my worst days, I can laugh the whole way through them because I know I am loved and all bad things are temporary.

<3 Always,

NikNak
